(More customer reviews)In theory this product is great - a portable gadget for removing a cassette lockring which would be a necessary preliminary, for example, to a field repair of a broken rear drive-side spoke. The product, however, has a fatal flaw: it will only work when the dropout and adjacent portion of the seat stay are narrow and of uniform width. Unfortunately, many if not most currently available bike frames from Specialized and Trek have a gradual widening as one moves from dropout to seat stay. What this means is that when the "Mini Cassette Lockring Driver" is used as recommended on these frames it will damage the finish and gouge the dropout without necessarily loosening the lockring. Even if one were able to apply enough force to remove the lockring it would be at the expense of a severely damaged frame! Personally, I would rather call the wife or SAG wagon than ruin a perfectly good frame. Once home the cassette can be removed in the standard way with chainwhip, lockring tool, and adjustable wrench. On the other hand, if you have a frame (usually an older one) that will accomodate this gadget it will work as advertised.At about 30 bucks this gizmo is clearly overpriced. Also, the manufacturer should have known that the device will not fit a large number of current bikes and is thus guilty of misleading the buyer by not mentioning that in his promotional material. Buy this device only if you can be sure it will fit your frame. Unfortunately it is probably not possible to know this ahead of time.
